Good news in the Bay

During the past administrations, between the three governmental bodies, Puerto Vallarta’s touristic promotion wasn’t a priority.Focused on security, the federal government was stuck, not to even mention the state or the municipal governments…Puerto Vallarta’s mark has survived in the minds of the of its regular visitors thanks to investment made in publicity through the private initiative, which surpasses by far the sum dedicated to promotion by the official tourism Trust.

Would our leaders know that tourism is an activity that holds great importance in the development of the people in any country? And thatit must also generate an economic impact for the benefit of the community along with the interest of the many sectors involved: government, enterprises and the civil society, mainly in the commercial and service industry, but also with academic and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). However, in our community these efforts were independent, voluntary and not forced to be, which generated omission in the recognition and shared responsibility, duplicity in effort and function conflicts. However, it was necessary to generate a national vision organized by the key productive industries in the country; in this case, finally coincided with the interests of the region and with a “party-based political vision,” creating a model of promotion in the form of Riviera Vallarta-Nayarit to achieve the successful management for the benefit of bothdestinations and the country.

It was the first time that the resources from two states and the Federal government have been combined to serve one purpose, also with the participation from the private sector for the promotion of tourism in Vallarta and Nayarit, for which 10 million dollars will be invested, expecting for an arrival of 135 thousand new tourists in the region and for that reason, to cause an annual economic impact of 100 million dollars. The contributions are as follows:

The CPTM(Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico),, 3.3 million dollars, with the governments of both Jalisco and Nayarit contributing 1.6 million dollars each and the remaining 3.5 million would be given by both OCVs (Office for conventions and visitors) in equal measure.

The big hope was set with the signing of the agreement between Vallarta’s Tourism Trust and the Apple Vacations Wholesale Agency, promoting the creation of new weekly flights to the Bay and the Riviera, coming from St. Louis, Missouri; Lansing, Michigan; Rockford, Illinois; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and New York, among others.

And, what better moment than this considering that Blue Flag, which recognizes the coastal destinations that achieve the qualification of “excellence” in their information and environmental education, water quality, environmental management, safety and services, have recently given Riviera Nayarit this important international certification.

The program also counts with the support and validation of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO); the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); the Environmental Program of the United Nations (UNEP); the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN); the International Association of Lifesaving and first aid (ILS, the European Environment Agency (EEA), the European Union for Coastal Conservation (EUCC); the International Council of Associations of Port Industry (ICAPI) and the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

Under the slogan “two destinations, only one paradise,” we cannot but congratulate and thank everybody who made this dream of uniting our Bay into one destination: VALLARTA-NAYARIT.
