Dra. Maria Jose Cuevas
La Dra. María José Cuevas nació en Puerto Vallarta, en el seno de una familia de reconocidos médicos, así que desarrolló su vocación de forma natural desde muy pequeña. Estudió medicina en la Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, con especialidad en medicina interna por el hospital Dr. Ángel Leaño -UAG, en el cual tuvo la oportunidad de tratar pacientes con cáncer y ver la gran necesidad que hay en nuestro país de médicos con esta especialidad. Toma, por ello, la decisión de especializarse en Oncología Médica (quimioterapia), disciplina que estudia en el Centro Médico Nacional 20 de Noviembre ISSSTE UNAM, donde los concluyó en 2006. Se encuentra certificada por el Consejo Mexicano de Oncología y cuenta, además, con un diplomado en cuidados paliativos, mismo que aplica a sus pacientes con cáncer y otros enfermos terminales.
Hace cinco años y medio regresó a su entrañable Puerto Vallarta, lugar que palpita en su corazón y donde siempre supo que iba a ejercer. Entre sus proyectos a corto plazo se encuentra establecer una unidad de cuidados paliativos abierto a todos los pacientes terminales, cuyo objetivo será brindarles las mejores atenciones médicas, respetar su dignidad como pacientes y hacer este difícil trance lo más sereno y confortable posible, tanto para el enfermo como para su familia. Actualmente colabora con la Asociación Femenil Vallartense en el programa de atención a niños con cáncer.
Dr. Maria Jose Cuevas was born in Puerto Vallarta, in the heart of a family of renowned doctors, so she developed her vocation in a natural way since her childhood. She studied medicine at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, with a specialty in internal medicine at the hospital Dr. Angel Leaño -UAG, where she had the opportunity to treat patients with cancer and see the great need there is in our country of doctors with this specialty. Taking, therefore, the decision to specialize in Medical Oncology (chemotherapy), a discipline that she studies in the National Medical Center 20 NOVEMBER ISSSTE UNAM, where she concluded in 2006. She is certified by the Mexican Council for Oncology and, in addition, with a diploma in palliative care, same that she applies to her patients suffering from cancer and other terminal illnesses.
Five and a half years ago she returned to her lovely Puerto Vallarta, place that beats in her heart and where she always knew she was going to exert. Among her short-term projects is to set up a palliative care unit open to all the terminal patients, whose purpose will be to provide the best medical care, respecting the patients´ dignity and make this difficult trance as more serene and comfortable as possible, to both the patient and the family. Currently she collaborates with the Vallarta Female Association in a program for the care of children with cancer.
