We present exclusively for VIP, the experiences of 10 successful women telling us how they managed to overcome the gender equity in their professional life.

Buri Gray es originaria de Torreón, Coahuila y, como buena norteña, siempre se ha caracterizado por su franqueza y fácil trato. De profesión maestra, estudió letras y trabajó en la prestigiada empresa de Procter & Gamble. Desde hace varios años es voluntaria de Becas Vallarta y dirige el patronato del museo Peter Grey, el cual alberga una interesante colección de arte que incluye obras de artistas con reconocimiento internacional. Las mujeres que han marcado su vida son su madre, Lupita Rodríguez de Salinas y su hermana, María DoloresTorres. Sobre la discriminación hacia la mujer opina que es falta de confianza en la capacidad de la mujer, mientras que la falta de equidad de género es un factor de costumbres y tradiciones desde una visión muy cerrada. Admira a cualquier mujer que defienda susprincipios de manera no violenta, cualquier mamá que ayude a sus hijos a mejorar con valores espirituales y humanos.
Buri Gray is originally from Torreon, Coahuila and, as a good northern lady, she has always been characterized by her openness and easy manners. Teacher by profession, she studied arts and worked in the prestigious company of Procter & Gamble. For several years she has been a voluntary of Becas Vallarta and directs the trustees of the Peter Gray museum, which houses an interesting collection of art that includes works by artists with international recognition. Women that have marked his life are his mother, Lupita Rodriguez of Salinas and his sister, Maria Dolores Torres. On the discrimination toward women she believes that it is lack of confidence in the ability of the women, while the lack of gender equity is a factor of customs and traditions from a very closed vision. She admires any woman who will defend her principles in a non-violent manner, any mom who help her children improve with human and spiritual values.

Gabriela Alejandra Enríquez Serrano es una joven profesionista tapatía, abogada y, actualmente, juez segundo en materia penal.
El mayor reto que ha enfrentado en su vida profesional es tomar decisiones de gran impacto social, en cuanto juez, manteniendo a costa de lo que sea la justicia y la equidad, la cual considera que es un factor de alta cultura moral. Su madre es la mujer que ha marcado su vida. Considera que la discriminación hacia la mujer es un acto de violencia física y simbólica. Una de las mujeres que admira es Olga Sánchez Cordero, por las decisiones últimamente tomadas, que reflejan control y decisión en su trabajo como ministra.
Gabriela Alejandra Enríquez Serrano is a young professional tapatia, a lawyer and, currently, a judge in criminal matters. The greatest challenge that she has faced in her professional life is making decisions of great social impact and as a judge, maintaining above all justice and equity, which she believes it is a factor of high moral culture. Her mother is the woman that has marked her life. She believes that discrimination toward women is an act of physical and symbolic violence. One of the women that she admires is Olga Sanchez Cordero, for the recently taken decisions, that reflect control and decision in her work as a minister.

Janice Chatterton, de origen estadounidense, es una mujer empresaria, acostumbrada a grandes retos, que dirige con gran éxito el Hotel Boutique y Restaurant Hacienda San Ángel. Es miembro activo de la SPCAPV y cuenta con su propio refugio para animales abandonados. Para ella, su éxito radica en hacer lo que más le gusta. Admira a las mujeres fuertes y firmes en sus principios, que son un modelo a seguir. Para ella, la discriminación hacia la mujer es algo injusto, como toda discriminación. Una de las mujeres de la actualidad que más admira es Hillary Clinton, por su inteligencia, fuerza y valor.
Janice Chatterton, of American origins, is a businesswoman used to big challenges, she runs the Hotel Boutique and Restaurant Hacienda San Ángel with great success. She is an active member of the SPCAPV and she is has her own refuge for abandoned animals. For her, success relies in doing what she likes most. She admires any woman that is strong and stands firm on her principles, they are a role model to follow. For her, the discrimination toward women is unfair, as all forms of discrimination. One of today´s women that she admires most, is Hillary Clinton, for her intelligence, strength and courage.

Maria Karina Macías Aguirre nació en México D. F., pero se crio en Guadalupe, Zacatecas y vive desde hace 11 años en Puerto Vallarta. Es Comunicóloga y Periodista, perfil con el que se desempeña como Directora de Radio Universidad y del Encuentro Internacional de Periodistas. Atribuye su éxito profesional a que le gusta romper estructuras, crear, disfrutar su trabajo y se considera un vínculo que facilita el libre curso de las ideas. Le gusta ayudar con su trabajo desde la radio a los diferentes ámbitos de la sociedad. Para ella la discriminación se debe a la inequidad y la ignorancia. El mayor reto en su vida profesional es compaginar su trabajo con la crianza de sus hijos y hacer bien ambas cosas. Admira a la mujer que es capaz de crear, de ser libre, de hacer lo que le gusta y que logra sus sueños, a pesar de las circunstancias
Maria Karina Macías Aguirre was born in Mexico d.f., but was raised in Guadalupe, Zacatecas and lived for 11 years in Puerto Vallarta. She is a journalist and the Director of Radio University and the International Journalists Meeting. She attributes her professional to the fact that she likes to break structures, to create, to enjoy her work, she considers herself a link that facilitates the free course of ideas. She likes to help with her work at the radio, the different areas of society. For her discrimination is due to inequality and ignorante.The biggest challenge in her career is reconcile her work with the upbringing of her children and do both well. She admires the woman who is able to create, to be free, to do what she likes and achieved her dreams, despite the circumstances.

Nelly Barquet es una empresaria que ha explorado diversas facetas de su vida, destacando, entre otras, la gastronomía, donde ha desplegado su talento como propietaria del legendario Restaurant Las Palomas. Es originaria del D. F. Para ella, la cuestión de éxito profesional radica en el continuo crecimiento, con sus altas y bajas, pero siempre hacia adelante. Para ella, la falta de equidad de género es una cuestión de egoísmo.
Nelly Barquet is an entrepreneur who has explored various aspects of her life, highlighting, among others, the gastronomy, where she has deployed her talent as an owner of the legendary Restaurant Las Palomas. She is originally from Mexico City. For her, the question of professional success lies in a continuous growth, with its ups and downs, but always forward. For her, the lack of gender equity is a matter of selfishness.

Laurel Carrillo Ventura originaria de Jala, Nayarit es Química-farmacéutica- bióloga, actual presidente de Ciudades Hermanas de Puerto Vallarta/ Santa Barbara y miembro activo de varias asociaciones. Atribuye su éxito profesional al hecho de haber logrado sus objetivos personales durante estos años. Para ella la falta de equidad de género es, en gran medida, el escaso reconocimiento de las autoridades en los ámbitos políticos, sociales y culturales hacia el sexo femenino. Una de las mujeres que más admira es María Curie, pionera en el campo de la radioactividad, quien renunció a las riquezas para que sus descubrimientos ayudaran a combatir el cáncer, y fue la primer mujer en la historia en ser profesora de la Universidad de París.
Laurel Carrillo Ventura, originally from Jala, Nayarit is a Chemistry – pharmacist – biologist, current president of the Puerto Vallarta / Santa Barbara Sisters Cities and an active member of several associations. She attributes her professional success to the fact of having achieved her personal targets during these years. For her the absence of equity of genre is, to a great extent, the scarce recognition of the authorities in the political, social and cultural ambiences towards women. One of the women who more admires is Maria Curie, pioneer in the field of the radioactivity, who stept away from wealths so that her discoveries could help the fight against cancer, and was the first woman in the history to become a teacher of the University of Paris.

Janina Lea Erban es originaria de Edmonton, Alberta, Canadá. Es una persona con una gran espiritualidad y maestra de idiomas. Dirige con gran éxito Paraíso Felino-Refugio de gatos, albergue de 200 animales rescatados en condiciones de abandono y maltrato. Cuidar de los gatos es una tarea que le impone seguir aprendiendo a ser mamá, doctor y representante publicitario para ellos. Una de las mujeres que ha marcado su vida de manera positiva es su mejor amiga, Beulah Banyard, por ser una mujer espiritual y leal. Para ella la discriminación hacia la mujer es un factor de dominación. “Las personas no entienden que somos ‘diferentes’, nos comenta, pero al mismo tiempo iguales”.

A person with a great spirituality and a language teacher, she administrates with great success Paraíso Felino, a rescue shelter for abused and neglected animal. Caring for cats is a task that requires her to continue learning to be a mom, a doctor and an advertising representative for them. She describes the success of her professional development in the fact that she enjoyed learning languages and teach them to other people.One of the women that has marked her life in a positive way is her best friend, Beulah Banyard, a spiritual and loyal woman. For Janina, the discrimination against women is a factor of domination. “The people do not understand that we are ‘different’, she says, but at the same time equals”.

Liney Cornejo Mendoza es una joven empresaria vallartense, que estudió la licenciatura en Administración de Empresas, con especialidad en Mercadotecnia y Hotelería, habilidad con la que dirige con talento tres hoteles. Califica el éxito profesional en el hecho de tener claro a dónde quiere ir, visualizarlo y lograrlo.
El mayor reto profesional en su vida ha sido defender sus ideas.
Liney Cornejo Mendoza is a young businesswoman born in Puerto Vallarta, who studied her degree in business administration, majoring in marketing and hotels, skill with which she directs with talent three hotels. She describes the professional success in having clear where one wants to go, visualizing it and achieving it. The biggest professional challenge in her life has been to defend her ideas. For her, the lack of gender equity is inequality, which is manifested by ignorance and fear of competitiveness and because of sexism. She admires the women who fight and defend their ideals, intelligent women who dare to do things despite adversity.

María José Zorrilla Alcalá es, además de empresaria hotelera, mimbro activo del Patronato de la Biblioteca de los Mangos, la cual preside con gran éxito. Nació en Cd. Victoria, Tamaulipas. Estudió Ciencias de la Comunicación. Para ella, el éxito es un estado que busca siempre salir de la inamovilidad porque, nos comenta, “…cuando crees que ya llegaste, no evolucionas, ni buscas crecer, innovar, te quedas en un estado de congelamiento. Lo interesante es el camino para buscar el éxito.” Uno de los mayores retos en su vida profesional fue en el sector turístico, estando en el Fidecomiso de turismo, entidad donde los intereses de unos y otros no coinciden, ni siempre derivan en las mejores decisiones para el destino. Para ella la falta de equidad de género se debe a la ignorancia generalizada. La mujer que admira de la actualidad es Melinda Gates porque, pudiendo hacer lo que quiera con su vida, se ha dedicado a atender su fundación, junto a su marido Bill Gates, y han ayudado y contribuido a construir un mundo mejor, más equitativo.
María José Zorrilla Alcalá is an hotel entrepreneur but also an active member of the Board of Trustees of the Library Los Mangos, which she presides with great success. She was born in Cd. Victoria, Tamaulipas. Studied Communication, and she is currently engaged in the tourism and cultural promotion. For her, success is a state of mind that keeps you moving because, “ …when you think you are done, you don’t evolve, you don’t growth nor innovate, you stay in a state of freezing. What’s interesting is the path to success.” One of the greatest challenges in her professional life was in the tourism sector, still in the escrow of tourism, entity where the interests of a few and others do not match, nor result in the best decisions for the destination. The woman who she admires nowaday is Melinda Gates because, beeing able to do what she wants with her life, she has been dedicated to run a foundation, along with her husband Bill Gates, and have helped to build a better, more equitable world.

Marta Gilbert, artista estadounidense, radica plácidamente en Puerto Vallarta desde hace varios años. Ella atribuye su éxito profesional a un conjunto de personas y factores diferentes, principalmente a la gente hermosa de Vallarta. Una de las mujeres que han marcado positivamente su vida fue Georgia O´Keefe, pintora. Para ella la falta de equidad de género hacia la mujer encierra inseguridad masculina y femenina; sin embargo, en su caso, nunca la ha sentido. En la actualidad, admira a su empleada Martha por su fuerza, paciencia y sabiduría de mujer y de mamá.
Marta Gilbert, American artist, lives peacefully in Puerto Vallarta since several years ago. She attributes her success to a professional set of people and different factors, mainly to the beautiful people of Vallarta. One of the women that have marked her life was positively Georgia O’Keefe, a painter. For her, the lack of gender equity toward women encloses male and female insecurity, however, she have never felt it personally. At the present time, she admires her maid Martha for her strength, patience and wisdom as women and mother.
